Mr. McClure began playing the piano just like this young lad at an early age. In fact, at the age of five, he would listen to his seven year old sister play her pieces on the piano and then he would go to the piano when she was finished and play her pieces in the exact same key, exact same notes, exact same rhythms by ear! From that day on, there have been very few days that Mr. McClure hasn't played or worked on a piano. By the time he was in the fifth grade in elementary school, he was the grade school orchestra's pianist. After a short stint at WVU in another unrelated field of study, he switched over to being a music major and now holds a bachelor's degree in piano performance.
After teaching elementary general music and beginning band at Ft. Ashby and Short Gap WV elementary schools, Mr. McClure began doing more and more technical and tuning work on pianos, so much so that he finally made that his full time profession in 1977.
1980 found him opening McClure's Piano Shop at 144 N. Locust St., Hagerstown, MD. 1989 prompted a move of the store to 63 E. Franklin St., Hagerstown, and finally in 1998 he moved to his present 3000 sq. ft. facility at 816 Pope Ave.
Because of his advanced pianistic abilities, he serves as the pianist in residence at the Washington County Museum, and has performed as a solo pianist at numerous local events including some at the Maryland Theatre.
